In the Spring of 2016, REACT arranged an introduction course at Chalmers for refugees with engineering background. The course involved 4 lectures where different lectures were invited to speak, such as: Sveriges Ingenjörer, West Sweden Chamber of Commerce, Chalmers school of entrepreneurship and other relevant inspirational and informative lectures. The topics included as for example “What is it like to work as an engineer in Sweden?”, “Business climate in west Sweden” and “Workshop and organizational behavior”. The course also involved two field trips to Skanska and and Volvo Trucks.
Beside relevant information and field trips, a network with the course participants, students at Chalmers as well as professionals within relevant fields were created, where contacts, information, invitations and tips could be shared. Also, each course begun with “language café” in order for people to get to know each other and to practice the Swedish language.
This was a “pilot project” with about 30 participants, to see if the concept of the course was of value. It turned out to be very appreciated both among participants and invited lectures and will therefor be further developed and runed again in the school year of 2016/2017. Whether you are newly arrived in Sweden, are a student at Chalmers or are a company of relevance – you are all very welcome to participate!
